From the Sexologist's Desk: Let's un-label you

My career endorsed labels to no end. Working in mental health, drug and alcohol and then Sexology, it was all about the labels. They are useful, they make sure people get the right treatment and medications. Important right?

Can I ask you now how labels have shaped your world? Your life? Your truest feelings about yourself?

Labels have everything to do with your sexuality because being sexual is so incompatible with nearly all the labels in my poem below. Labels are great at communicating messages succinctly but suck at describing a person as a whole. I'l still use labels upfront but I am really craving to be Lauren. It's my name. It's me. It's whole.

The more challenging it is to label another woman, the more woman she really is.
Because womanhood is an indescribable experience.

Because being a woman needs no other label.

Let's un-label you.
From being masculine, feminine, yin, yang and everything in-between.
Let's un-label you.
From being capable of a vaginal, clitoral, cervical, whole body orgasm or no orgasm at all.
Let's unlabel you.
From being anxious, depressed, bipolar, personality disordered, traumatised and medicated.
Let's unlabel you.
From being the good girl, cool wife, martyr mama, dependable daughter and high achieving employee.
Let's unlabel you.
From being vegan, orthorexic, overweight and alcoholic.
Let's unlabel you.
As a goddess, Tantrika, Kali spirited, gypsy, embodied lightworker.
Let's unlabel you.
From being addressed in ways that don't sit well with you.
Let's call you by your name.

Let's un-label you.
